Advanced Text Work
6.1 Fitting Text to Path
You can position artistic text along the path of an open object (for example, line) or a closed object (for example, a square).
After you fit text to a path, you can adjust the texts position relative to that path. For example, you can place the text on the opposite side of the path, or you can adjust the distance between the text and the path.
To fit text to a path, do this:
1. Draw a curve using the Pick tool.
2. Click Text menu and choose Fit Text to path.
3. Type along the path. You can fit text to any object. (See Figure 6.1)

Text Placement click the drop down list and choose to specify the horizontal position if the text is fit to left-align, center, or right-align of you text.
Distance from the path click the list box and choose to specify the vertical distance between the text and the path. You can move you text above (give value in the box) or below the path.
Horizontal Offset click the list box and choose to specify the distance by which you want to move the text along the path horizontally. You can move you text left (give value in the box) or right the path.
Place on Other Side You can place the text on the other side of the path or return text to its original position on the path. Text is place on the other side of the path when you click this button.
You can also change the horizontal position of fitted text by selecting it with the Shape tool, and dragging the character nodes you want to reposition.
Using the Pick tool, you can move text along the path by dragging the small red node that appears beside the text.
CorelDRAW treats text fitted to a path as one object. However, you can separate the text from the object if you no longer want it to be part of the path. When you separate text from a curved or closed path, the text retains the shape of the object to which hit was fitted. Straightening reverts the text to its original appearance.
To separate text from a path, do this:
1. Select the fitted text using the Pick tool.
2. Click Arrange menu and choose Break Apart (See Figure 6.3)

To straighten text, do this:
1. Select the fitted text using the Pick tool.
2. Separate the text from the path.
